ABOUT US

HOW WE WORK

DELICACY FROM BEGINNING TO END

At Camp Walden, we only harvest oranges from our own fields. We are very meticulous when it comes to knowing well the orange that reaches the consumer. Therefore, our process begins with a good study of the fields we acquire. We pay attention to the soil characteristics such as texture, structure, pH level or fertility. We also search for fields which are near to our home, which makes it easier for us to monitor them on a daily basis.

Once we have acquired the field, we proceed to its transformation and plowing, choosing the best watering techniques and other infrastructures that allow us to carry out the agricultural work in the best possible conditions.

Another of our main investments consists in selecting quality seedlings with the objetive of seeing them turn into orange trees of long and excellent lives.

During the year, we use fertilization techniques, increasing biological control to combat pests in the most respectful possible way for the environment and the orange.

We carry out pruning and rigorous selection of the fruits that we decide to discard or keep in each tree, always sacrificing potential kilograms of oranges so that the tree rests and so the fruits it produces, despite being scarcer, are better.

Finally we carefully harvest the oranges and proceed to pack them with our own hands and with all the love that a family business entails. We do orange boxing in the same field where they have been picked and they are transported the same day to the place of sale. This means that, the orange reaches the consumer ́s hands in record time. Being this freshness, the most characteristic note of our oranges.

Now you know more about our oranges and mandarins which are available in markets and greengrocers ready to be enjoyed by you.

YEARS OF EXPERIENCE

defying the odds

OUR STORY

It is said we all have a story. So does Camp Walden, which was once a boy ́ s dream. A boy, that despite the obstacles, defied the odds.
And yes, we are talking about oranges. And yes, we don’t need to offer more than a good quality orange. But in life, one can give only what it is expected or one can decide to give a little bit more. Camp Walden plays for the second team. We offer you an orange and a background story, just in case somedays you need apart from a piece of fruit, a little bit of hope.

Have you ever seen that famous Steven Spielberg film called “Catch me if you can”? The story behind Camp Walden reminds us about that amazing speech of the film: “Two little mice fell into a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn ́t quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he turned the cream into butter and crawled out. Gentlemen, as of this moment, I am that second mouse”.
This is a message that invites to work and to action. It teaches us that work has its reward and that constancy has much more winnings than dejection and complaint.

If when you try our “Waldens” apart from appreciating their sweetness, you stop and think about all of the good things waiting for you if you just continue persevering, we could say, that there has never been such an accomplished orange.

Camp Walden PHILOSOPHY

OUR PHILOSOPHY.

We, the Ribelles family, have been working on orange growing for decades and what a better way to summarize our experience than with a concept such as “Camp Walden”.

Camp Walden means origin, essence and nature. Terms more than rooted to agriculture.
Have you ever been out in nature in an intense way? You’ll be amazed at how much we can learn from it.
Away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, from work, from being on time, from the fear we feel for the future. If you go deeply into nature, you will discover something really important: that success in life rests in “who you are” and “who you want to become”.

This is the main idea in Thoreau’s book, “Walden”. This book is the reason we gave such a name to our project and speaks with great delicacy about what this philosopher learned in the forest discarding everything that was not life. Of the benefits of living from the soul, with intention and consciousness. Thoreau said: “There is nothing better than to stand at the meeting of two eternities, the past and the future, which is precisely the present moment; that is the line you must follow”.

The key to life lies in simplicity. In simplifying, knowing how to distinguish the superficial from the essential, the important from the relative, this is our philosophy.

Thoreau spoke about living deliberately. This means to act with passion and to remember that we do not know everything, to be humble and to show an attitude of daily learning. In essence, to be a good person, because goodness is, without a doubt, the only investment that never fails.

Now you know Camp Walden ́s oranges are full of values, truth, respect and a desire to continue growing and learning. About the fact that they are full of sweetness, quality and freshness we wish you will soon discover. We hope you count on us.
